Satire Seminar

In today's seminar we were given an image of Donald Trump and told to make a meme out of it! I worked with Lorna to try and think of a way we could turn this image into a meme. In the end we made it into a thug life meme. This is a meme that usually when in a video somebody does something bad ass or without a care music plays, everything turns black and white and sunglasses and a spliff will appear in their mouth, with the words 'thug life' somewhere on the screen. For our image we drew sunglasses, a spliff and wrote thug life on his finger! We did this because we were told to think about the wall between mexico and the USA that Trump wants to build, so we chose thug life because he is planning to build this wall even though nobody really wants it but he is doing it any way because it's what he wants. He also wants Mexicans to build it as well as for their government to pay for it which is down right cheeky and ridiculous. 

We then had to think of a satirical way that we would propose the blueprints for building Trumps wall. It was hard to think of what to do but we thought how on walls around the world (for example the Berlin wall) art is drawn on them to convey a message of opposition and the want for freedom. We thought of covering the wall with anti-Trump art work. This is contradicting as it is his wall yet people could deface it in anger over the wall and Trump himself. 

This seminar was useful to me because my project is about Trump and I want to include satire into my illustrations. It gave me an opportunity to discuss thoughts and ideas for my project and has helped me think of some things that I now want to include in it
