InDesign with Rob

In this afternoon's tutorial with Rob we learnt how to make InDesign files interactive so that on a Pdf file you are able to watch videos, click buttons and hear sound. We can use these skills to make our project documents better than just a slideshow. Here is the video that we used to practice with that some students created a few months ago.

Rob showed us how to set up a file that was suitable for web and that we have to change the format to 'interactive with PDF' to use the media, buttons and forms and SWF preview options.
When putting the video file onto the document you use the media tool to edit the footage and add navigation points that help with creating buttons. The button feature allows you to turn shapes or text into a button. We made a buttons using shapes and text that worked with navigation points so that when you click the button it takes you to a certain point in the video that I chose. We also made a play button that would play the video when clicked, but with the help of Photoshop we also made the button different colours when the mouse hovered over the button and also when you clicked it. SWF preview allows you to preview the PDF so you can watch the video, know what it will look like and also see if it will work.

We also screen shot parts of the video and turned them into buttons, so that when you clicked on the screenshot thumbnail it would start playing the video at the time you set via navigation points. Everything we learnt is useful for when creating research documents as I can now try to add new types of media to my InDesign documents like videos.
