Response to Collage Research

I decided to respond to my collage research by trying to create my own. I have always collected free magazines so I had the resources to try and create some designs! My main inspiration was Adam Hale (Mr Splice).

My first design was taken from a free boots magazine. There was quite a few large images of models and I liked this one where she was leaning on her hand. I then saw an image of somewhere abroad with a colorful sunset, plane and palm trees. I decided to cut out the woman's face with my scalpel and replace it with the sunset image. I like it without the face as well as with the face added, like its disconnected from her and floated away. I then took photos and edited them to make the colours brighter. It looks like she is sat dreaming of being on holiday and abroad - the plane represents what she is thinking and dreaming of.

This second image is from a few different magazines. I cut out the legs at first and tried to use them in some sort of way. I then saw this sitting man and thought of placing him on the legs. With a plain background I thought it looked boring, there was not enough going on. Then I saw an image of a bright orange rose and placed them on top. This looks a lot better because of the vivid colour and texture of the background. To me, this image is about female sexuality and expression, with the bare legs, and the blooming rose which connotes femininity. The man represents a males lust for a woman. I am not a cut out wizard yet, so the edges are not perfectly smooth, I hope to improve on this as I do more collages.

The third collage shows a man holding a baby. I thought this was an interesting image and wanted to use it somehow. The background was taken from an advert. I like the black and white image against the purple rectangular shape. This image to me represents society , politics, protest, birth and pro life campaigns. The image is actually of a concert, but it looks more like people in protest more than a concert, especially with the grainy black and white filter.
