Final typeface design
In the final session with John were were told to choose a final font design from the three we previously designed in the last session, and to develop it into a final design. I chose the geometric block typography that I had designed because it was complex, interesting, my favorite and thought it would be a challenge. The inspiration for this font came from the first typography session where I was inspired by some typography examples that was a font that looked like buildings and drew a blocky geometric design, and then in the second lesson I took this design forward by changing it up but still going with the 3D block design.
There was no point re drawing the letters again as I wanted to make it digital so I scanned the sketches from last week in the studio and put them onto Illustrator. I lowered the opacity and locked the image so it could not move about. Then, using the pen tool, square tool and snap to grid I began drawing blocks and placing them together to try and recreate what I had drawn. Some designs needed changing a lot and I had to change the sizes quite often too as I stuck to the grid so that each letter was the same height and the blocks were the same sizes throughout. I also put each letter on a different layer as it made everything more organised.
Once each letter was drawn I arranged them neatly and following the grid to present the typeface. The final design has a simple white background and black outlined letters. This is the outcome.
