Developed work 3 - Still Life

In December 2016 I attended a still life lesson with John where objects were put onto tables and the our task was to realistically draw them. I really enjoyed this lesson so I have decided to continue practicing still life sketching at home. I selected three items from my room to draw with different techniques. First thing I saw was a flower in my vase that was in a huge bunch of flowers. I had not yet drawn still life nature so I thought I would give it ago.

For the flower I decided to use fine liners using thick fine liners for shading and a lighter pen for outlines and details. I think it turned out quite pretty and looks similar to the flower I copied it from.

The second still life is over my makeup brush pot that had a couple of brushes in it. For this I used fine liners for the outlines and shading. I then used pro markers to add the colour on the brushes, as well as a white pen to add highlights to the metal brush handles. I like the way this turned out and enjoyed the technique.

The last drawing was a pencil sketch of a Jack Daniels bottle. I tried to concentrate on the shape and shading of the bottle rather than the details on the label. I used a 3H pencil for basic outline and then a darker 2B to add more depth and shadow to the bottle.

I think that this technique could use more practice as I have not done it for a long time.

I enjoyed creating some more still life and further developing my still life drawing skills.
