Typography with John
In todays afternoon session with John we had to create three typefaces inspired by last sessions work. The first typeface I deigned was inspired by last session geometric shapes/blocks typeface as tutors seemed to like it. However on this typeface I did a different angle for the shadow/3D effect and also did not add windows. It took a long time to design this font because each letter required a lot of thinking about where I would position each block to form the complex shape of the letters plus I also designed each letter quite big so it took longer. I used squared paper underneath paper to make sure the proportions were correct and all the same.
My second type was a simple serif font that was quite bubbled and rounded. I used a black pro marker to outline each letter with a thick and smooth black line.
My third and final design was a drippy font. Each letter looks like its melting or made of drippy slime. I coloured the letters in black pro marker to darken the font and add more depth and definition to the drips.
My favourite design is design one because it is quite complex and refined. John also said it was his favourite and that I should develop it. It is different to many fonts and I am keen to develop this font further in the next typography session.
