Creating my own zine - developed work

I decided to create my own zine after the zine making workshop I had at the beginning of the year. A zine could be about anything so I knew I could choose any topic for my zine. My favourite thing to draw is drag queens, so I chose this as my topic! At the moment season 10 of RuPauls Drag Race is on TV so I chose to draw queens from the new season in my zine.

I started with an A4 piece of paper and folded and cut the paper to create a zine which I learnt from the zine workshop.

On a separate piece of paper I folded to create the right sized rectangles so I could draw onto the squares and then stick the drawings into the zine. I did not want to draw directly onto the zine incase of a mistake and I was going to colour with pro markers which would have bleed through the paper. I had six pages to draw on so I chose six queens to draw; Aquaria, Monet XChange, Miz Cracker, Blair StClair, Asia O'Hara and Miss Vanjie.

I pencil sketched etched drawing and then cut them out of the paper. I then fine lined each drawing and rubbed the pencil out. The next step was to colour each drawing in which I used my pro markers.

I then needed to make the front cover. I named the zine 'Pocket Queenz' because inside are pocket sized drag queens! I drew out a title colouring it in and adding silver pen to make it sparkle. On the front and back cover I placed sparkly silver tape across the top and bottom and then stuck the title in the middle of the page.

On each spread I placed a different sparkly tape down the spine to add sparkle inside. I also used a silver sparkly pen to write the drag queens names!

I had so much fun creating this zine and think it is a cute little book that drag queens fans would enjoy! I'd like to continue making little zines, maybe other drag queen ones with different queens inside from different seasons!
