Bread Typography with Nick Deakin

Nicks last workshop was making typography out of bread! We were asked to bring a loaf of bread each in and get into pairs. Me and John played around with how we could use the bread to create letters. We noticed the crust was darker than the other part of the bread and thought this could be used a shadow to create definition and even a 3D element. Using the white bread and the darker crust we created the letter F to start with. We liked how this looked using the different shades of colour within the bread to create shadow and three dimension. We placed the letter on some bread as a background too. We liked how this looked therefore created some more letters using this theme!

Here is a gif which shows all the bread letters we made. We placed the bread on white paper as a background and also scattered bread and crumbs around as well as things like pens and scissors, changing the position of these things for each letter to make the gif more interesting with a fun changing background. It was quite fun using bread like this as it was something very different to what I have done before and was a fun lesson.
