Heritage Quay Rugby League Animation

This lesson was sadly the last process and production ever with Sara. Our final animation with her was a collaborative live brief for the Universities Heritage Quay, which is an information and exhibition hub within the university. Heritage Quay have a large screen and want to have infographic animations played on them, designed by us. The first class with Sara made an info graphic animation about facts about Heritage Quay. I am the second group and our animation topic was facts about Rugby League. Everyone had to do a different fact so from a pile of papers with facts on them I pulled out my fact. It said 'The 1st Rugby League World Cup was held in France in 1954'.
When I first saw this fact my mind went to maybe having a French flag, but then I thought that would be too obvious. I then thought of the idea of having rugby posts but instead of a rugby ball flying through them, to have a croissant instead to relate back to the connection of France and rugby.

We were give three colours to use but everything else we had are reign on. The colours were a light blue, dark blue and then a green. I made the art work and type on illustrator before hand. The first part of the animation has the first part of the information. I used a light blue background and also added a darker blue triangle which animates upwards onto the screen when part of the text appears. The text is white which stands out against the blue and in the font Helvetica because it is easy to read. The words appear on the screen as if they are bing typed.

Once the text has all been displayed another frame that I designed appears. Everything falls down and then rugby posts that I made on illustrator appear on the screen with the roll on effect that I used in my last animation. The second part of the text appears next to the posts in the same typewriter style effect. Meanwhile the croissant that I designed again on Illustrator then flies through the posts the the front of the screen. I made the croissant rotate and get bigger as it flies forward so that it actually looks like a ruby player has thrown it and it is soaring through the air.  Then we had to add a transition to the end as the animations need to smoothly transition with one another when all put together in a video. This was a simple circle that expands across the screen.

At the end of the lesson Sara quickly put everyones animations together and we watched them. It was fun to see everyones attempts and how they looked all together. Mine was animation 19, and when it came on I got a few laughs which made me happy as I wanted the animation to have a comedic feel. This is my 10 second motion graphic. It was fun to design and also fun discovering new transitions and effects.
