Video editing with Jay Payne

In todays lesson with Jay he taught us how to make videos to showcase our work using premier pro. I have used premier pro before to make a video documenting my holiday to Amsterdam in 2017. I taught myself the programme when making the video however still did not know all the ins and outs of the programme.  Here is a link to the video on Youtube https://youtu.be/1ClfHjiwl5k.

In the lesson we made two videos, one that showcased photos and another that showcased cinema 4D videos, all using Jays photos and work. We started off uploading the photos and resizing them because the photos weren't the same size as the video size so I changed them to fit the screen showing as much as the image as possible. I also added text to the beginning of the slide saying slide show. Fade in and out was also added to slides to make a smoother video transition. Jay provided us with copyright safe music. We then had to make the slides go with beat of the music. He told us that when making a showreel it is best to choose music with a good beat so that slides can change along with it making a better video. With the music added we had to listen to the beat and put markers on the music to show where to start each photo so that it goes along with the beat of the music. I found this hard at first but soon got the hang of the rhythm and where the markers should go. The photos change around every 12 beats. Below is the final video!

The next task was to put jays cinema 4D work in a showreel video. I put the videos in the desired order and then added fade to black transitions so each video smoothly transitions. The videos didn't have sound therefore we added a music track again. Jay also showed us how to crop music because the song was too long for he length of the video. We did this using adobe audition, a music software I had never used before. I duplicated the track and cropped each one. To make the two halves fit together so that an edit of the track could net be detected I had to match the sound waves on the two tracks so that they flowed together, and then put them together to make one shorter track. I also edited the track to make sure that the music gradually fades out and does not abruptly stop when the video ends because that would look unprofessional.

We also had to add a credit roll at the end. In the text tool there is a setting that makes it turn into a credit roll therefore I just typed the words in and they automatically rolled up the screen. Here is the final showreel.

I think that this lesson was helpful as I now know how to make videos to showcase my work. I plan to make a video showcasing images of my work that I can add to my portfolio as a quick video that lets the watcher get a good feel for who i am and how I work.
